Christmas Readathon 2023!

I can’t believe how quickly the end of the year is approaching! It’s less than a month until Christmas, so it’s time to announce the plans for this year’s Christmas Readathon!

I’ve been hosting this Readathon for many years on my BookTube channel – this is the first year I’m hosting as a book blogger instead! It is also the first year that I’m working right up to and including Christmas Day, but then I have the whole week off after Christmas to catch up on my Christmas reading!

I am hugely indebted to my wonderful cohost Eva (from Read While It Rains) without whom the Readathon probably wouldn’t have happened this year, as I have been so busy with work and general life stuff.

So here’s what you need to know: the Readathon runs from 17th to 31st December and the aim is to finish the bookish year well – catch up on a few things from your TBR, read a few feel good books, and share your love of reading with others. We have eight prompts, they are entirely optional, and you can double or even triple up your books if you want.

The theme this year is A Christmas Carol and the prompts are all based around the characters:

1. Scrooge: Read a book with an unlikeable character

2. Ghost of Christmas Past: Read a book set in a different time period

3. Ghost of Christmas Present: Jolabokaflod – buy someone a book and spend some of Christmas Eve reading

4. Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come: Read a book with a magical or supernatural element

5. Fezziwig: Read a feel-good book

6. Bob Cratchit: Enjoy some time outdoors with an audiobook

7. Jacob Marley: Read A Christmas Carol and/or watch an adaptation of your choice

8. Tiny Tim: Take a break from reading and do something nice for a friend, family member or stranger

So that’s it! I’ll be working out my TBR in the next week or so, and will let you know what I plan to read soon! I already have a few ideas…

But as I said, the prompts are more suggestions than anything, so feel free to pick and choose, double up, or ignore them completely if you wish! If you want to share your reading plans, you can use this cute graphic that Eva created, and tag us on instagram: @cerilouisereads and @readwhileitrains.

There is also a Christmas Readathon ‘twitter’ account but I’m not really using ‘twitter’ any more (or whatever it’s calling itself these days) so don’t expect too much on there this year…

So let me know what you’re planning for Christmas, how you’re celebrating, and what you’re hoping to read!
